Climate and building heritage of Genoa

Genoa falls within climate zone D, with an indicative 1,435 degree days. The climate is typically mild and maritime: winters are relatively mild but often damp and windy, while summers are hot and sultry in many areas, with strong solar radiation on south- and west-facing elevations. The proximity of the sea brings two factors that should not be underestimated when choosing windows: salt spray, which over time attacks paintwork and hardware, and wind, which along the coast and on the hills can reach considerable intensity.
