Climate characteristics and building heritage

Verona is classified in climate zone E with around 2,468 degree days: the Veneto plain's climate brings cold, damp winters, with night frosts and persistent fog between December and February, and hot, markedly sultry summers, in which the typical Po Valley humidity and peaks consistently above 33-35 degrees also make overheating control decisive. High humidity in every season makes air tightness and condensation management crucial for windows. On the building front, Verona is a city with a strong identity: the historic centre, enclosed within the bend of the Adige and a UNESCO World Heritage site, retains medieval, Scaliger-era, Renaissance and 19th-century buildings of great value, with frontages subject to specific restrictions. Around the old core, districts such as Borgo Trento, with its Art Nouveau and early-twentieth-century buildings, and Borgo Roma, Golosine, San Michele Extra and Borgo Venezia, dominated by 1960s-80s residential blocks, form the fabric most often involved in energy retrofits. The hill areas such as Quinzano and Avesa and the ring towns, together with the villas and semi-detached houses of the Valpolicella and the Garda area, complete a highly diverse building stock that calls for dedicated solutions.

Most common project types in Verona

Four types of work are particularly recurring in our Verona projects. The first is window replacement in historic-centre buildings, where we work with Salamander profiles in wood-effect PVC or finishes compatible with the architectural character, preserving original dimensions, glazing bar layouts and colour tones to respect protected frontages. The second type is triple glazing in 1960s-80s blocks in Borgo Roma, Golosine, San Michele Extra and Borgo Venezia: with high-chamber-count profiles and low-E double-cavity sealed units, Uw values indicatively between 0.9 and 1.1 W/m²K are achieved, transforming the home's energy performance. The third typical job is the supply of acoustic laminated glazing for floors facing the busiest routes, such as the ring road, the area around the Bentegodi Stadium and the main through roads, where cutting outdoor noise with asymmetric sealed units matters. Finally, for villas and semi-detached houses in the ring, the Valpolicella and the Garda belt, we regularly supply thermal-break sliding patio doors and large glazed units, often combined with selective solar-control glazing to curb the summer overheating typical of the plain. All windows comply with CE marking under the EN 14351-1 product standard.

Local restrictions in Verona

Verona's historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and numerous listed buildings even outside the old core are subject to the requirements of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape responsible for Verona and to the municipal Building Regulations, which govern materials, external finishes, glazing bar layouts, and window and shutter colours on frontages. On these properties, preserving original layouts and finishes is often required, steering choices towards wood-effect profiles with shaped trims. Before works we always check for specific requirements on the building; for submitting planning and landscape applications we refer to the appointed professional (architect or surveyor), who handles the authorisation aspects with the relevant authorities. Technical documentation is prepared in line with the UNI 11673 standard on qualified window installation.
