Climate and building heritage of Padua

Padua is classified in climate zone E, with an indicative 2,383 degree days: the climate is typical of the lower Veneto plain, with cold, damp winters, frequent persistent fog, night frosts between December and February, and sultry, humid summers that make good condensation management and careful window air tightness important. High relative humidity in every season is a key factor in choosing glazing and profiles. From a heritage standpoint, Padua has a very strong historic identity: the centre is a medieval and Renaissance fabric of arcaded buildings, marked by landmarks such as Prato della Valle, the area of the old ghetto, the University with its Palazzo Bo, and the streets of porticoes that cross the city. Around the historic heart lie the residential districts: Arcella to the north, Stanga and Forcellini to the east, Sacra Famiglia and Brusegana to the west, Mortise towards the northern ring. The first ring and neighbouring towns host Venetian villas, terraced houses and semi-detached homes, while to the south-west the thermal-spa area of Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme forms a high-quality building district with specific comfort and insulation requirements.
