In depth

How we work
in Turin.

Climate characteristics and building heritage

Turin is classified in climate zone E with almost 2,650 degree days: long, harsh winters, with minimum temperatures repeatedly dropping below zero from December to February, snowfall, persistent frost and morning mist. Summer is hot with moderate sultriness and föhn gusts from the Alpine valleys that produce significant daily temperature swings, especially in the hills. Summer solar radiation is high on south-west-facing elevations. On the building front, Turin is a city of sharp contrasts: the historic centre, between piazza Castello, via Roma and the Savoy-era grid, retains fine 17th- and 18th-century palazzos and elegant 19th-century terraces. The immediate ring (Crocetta, San Salvario, Vanchiglia, Cit Turin) holds an exceptionally high-quality stock of Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings with bay windows, decorated stained glass, folding timber shutters and stone surrounds. The second-ring districts, from Mirafiori to Borgo Vittoria, from Barriera di Milano to Madonna di Campagna, are dominated by residential blocks from the 1960s-70s, often linked to FIAT and INA-Casa social housing schemes, today ideal candidates for energy retrofits. The Turin hills, between Borgo Po, Pino Torinese and Pecetto, are instead the realm of single-family villas, where the combination of orientation, altitude and wind calls for a dedicated approach.

Most common replacement types in Turin

The most recurring job in our Turin projects is full window replacement in flats in the former FIAT blocks of Mirafiori, Lingotto, Santa Rita, Pozzo Strada and Barriera di Milano, where the original anodised aluminium or poorly maintained timber windows show high heat loss and now-compromised air tightness. We supply Salamander bluEvolution 82 profiles with 4-12-4-12-4 triple low-E glazing with double argon fill, achieving Uw values between 0.9 and 1.0 W/m²K. The second frequent type is triple glazing in villas and semi-detached houses in the hills (Borgo Po, Cavoretto, Pino, upper Moncalieri), where north- and north-west-facing orientations and wind exposure call for maximum insulation and tightness. The third typical job concerns the refurbishment of Art Nouveau buildings in Crocetta, San Salvario and Cit Turin: here we propose wood-effect profiles with trims and natural stone sills, preserving the original reading of the façades. Finally, for ground floors of buildings facing corso Vittorio, corso Francia, corso Regina or the busier streets of the first ring, we regularly supply Maco MultiMatic hardware in RC2 class combined with P4A anti-burglary laminated glass.

Local restrictions and tax incentives

Turin's historic centre and large parts of the Centro, Crocetta, San Salvario and Vanchiglia districts fall within landscape-protected areas and under direct oversight by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the city of Turin, as well as the requirements of the Municipality of Turin's Building Regulations, which govern architectural character, external finishes, glazing bar layouts and permitted colour tones. In Art Nouveau and 19th-century buildings, preserving original layouts and finishes is often required, steering choices towards wood-effect PVC with shaped trims or, in some cases, traditional timber. For national tax deductions (ecobonus, renovation bonuses, window bonus), technical requirements, spending caps and the certification procedure are published on the official portals https://www.enea.it/ and https://www.agenziaentrate.gov.it/, to which we refer to check current conditions and rates.
